Este artigo apresenta a concepção de democracia adotada pela Teoria dos Sistemas Sociais na versão de Niklas Luhmann. Embora seja um tema pouco frequente na obra do sociólogo, ela foi exposta com clareza no artigo The Future of Democracy, publicado em 1990. Neste artigo, a concepção é apresentada como uma hipótese histórica que foi capaz de prever e explicar algumas características da democracia ocidental após a queda do bloco soviético. O artigo avança um desenvolvimento dessa concepção democrática para entender melhor (...) o ressurgimento dos movimentos políticos de extrema-direita na última década e, por outro lado, mostrar como tais movimentos são incompatíveis com o princípio democrático proposto pela teoria luhmanniana. In search of general generative principles I start from the postulate of a reality which comprises both materialistic and psychic aspects. This overall reality, described by others as the world of archetypes, is not directly accessible to sensory perception. Yet, by studying archetypical manifestations, it is possible to distinguish different structures or generative principles in it. Comparison of three models, which depict developmental processes in different disciplines, shows that they have the same basic structure. The effects of the archetypes involved (...) can be described as four general generative principles: 1st the principle of wholeness (connection and integration of conflicting opposites), 2nd the principle of complementation and compensation (periodic change of opposite influences); 3rd the enstructuring principle (relative stability or spatial aspect of a manifest structure), and 4th the principle of gesture (change or temporal aspect of that structure). Este artigo apresenta uma revisão do conceito de Inteligência Artificial pela ótica da transformação digital, que é, alegadamente, uma transformação dos meios de produção. Esta transformação acaba por confundir o terreno da produção, local histórico da análise marxista, com o da reprodução social, levando a uma expansão do campo de análise social para além das fronteiras econômicas tradicionais. É observado que a plataformização é a arquitetura hegemônica que acomoda a transformação digital. Ela amplia o cercamento dos bens comuns próprio ao (...) sistema capitalista acrescentando uma mercadoria fictícia, a informação, às demais já presentes (terra, trabalho, dinheiro). Cria-se mais uma camada de regime de acumulação, que denomino de “espetacularização”. Como modelo para esta abordagem, é sugerido o método estratégico da criptoanálise que se estabelece pelo tratamento da distinção transparência/opacidade, proposta pelo sociólogo Niklas Luhmann. Observa-se que esta é a distinção que rege o princípio da complexidade. Com isso, é possível rastrear os danos gerados pelos usos indiscriminados da Inteligência Artificial generativa, que estão latentes (ocultos) na adoção da tecnologia. O artigo finaliza com uma reflexão sobre o alcance do arcabouço legal e regulatório que está sendo pensado no Brasil para esta nova tecnologia. (shrink)

O trabalho propõe uma reflexão especulativa sobre a narrativa literária como subsistema autopoiético social, como extensão do conceito teórico de Niklas Luhmann de autopoiese (autopoiesis), aplicado nas ciências sociais. Nossa hipótese especula como a narrativa literária pode ser descrita como uma forma de comunicação social e de “observação de segunda ordem” (observação da observação). No entanto, a narrativa literária se distingue da narrativa social como uma “auto-observação” narrativa ou narrativa da narrativa. O que interessa à narrativa literária não é a (...) descrição de fatos, ações ou personagens, mas as relações de níveis narrativos no momento de sua autorreprodução. Com isso, será proposto um cruzamento entre a Teoria dos Sistemas Sociais de Luhmann com a Teoria da Narratologia, em particular como apresentada na obra de Gerard Genette. Assim, a diferença entre o nível narrativo (diegesis) e o nível de focalização da história corresponde à diferença entre observação de segunda e de primeira ordens. Será visto que a resolução dos paradoxos surgidos na circularidade da auto-observação do sistema literário é realizada pela formação de “cronotopos”, conceito da obra de Mikhail Bakhtin, isto é, como uma extensão no tempo e no espaço do domínio do imaginário. Este artigo aborda a mudança de paradigma para a noção de trabalho na sociedade impactada pela transformação digital. Reformulando o conceito de trabalho como transformação conservadora de energia, de acordo com a primeira lei da termodinâmica, para o entendimento do trabalho como redução da entropia, conforme a segunda lei, é possível compatibilizá-lo com os conceitos de informação e de comunicação. O artigo sugere que esta reformulação já estava implícita na teoria marxista e a diferencia do modelo ricardiano clássico. A transformação (...) digital é pensada como corte epistemológico no modo de produção, que traz consequências para o sistema funcional da economia. Neste, o modo dominante da economia capitalista (o capitalismo de plataforma) é confrontado com modos alternativos como o da Economia Solidária. O artigo examina se a transformação digital traz vantagens comparativas para a Economia Solidária e conclui positivamente neste sentido. (shrink)

Despite the availability of evidence-based treatment models for adolescent behavior problems, little is known about the effectiveness of these programs for adolescents with callous-unemotional traits. Defined by lack of empathy, lack of guilt, flattened affect and lack of caring, CU traits have been linked to long-term anti-social behavior and unfavorable treatment outcomes and might be negatively related to outcomes in evidence-based programs such as Functional Family Therapy. This study used a single-group pre-post evaluation design with a sample of 407 adolescents (...) receiving FFT to investigate whether outcomes in FFT are predicted by CU traits and to what extent reliable changes in CU traits can be observed. The results showed that although CU traits are related to increased problem severity at baseline, they predicted neither treatment dropout nor post-treatment externalizing behavior and family functioning. CU traits were related to diminished improvement ratings, in particular with respect to parental supervision. Reductions in CU traits were observed across the time of treatment, and these were most profound among adolescents with elevated levels of CU traits at baseline. Further research should investigate whether certain evidence-based treatment components are more suited for adolescents with CU, and if the addition of specific intervention elements for reducing CU-traits could further improve outcomes for this high-risk population. The aim of this paper is on the one hand to remind the Western reader of some aporias of Chinese antiquity, and on the other hand to show that a logic of sorts or of types similar to that which has been proposed to explain the relation between categories (in the mathematical sense of the term) and logic brings much light on these aporias. This should be contrasted with older traditional explanations using conventional syllogistics or feeling satised with too simple (...) explanations such as the confusion between inclusion and identity. The article is based on preceding papers of the Author, but stresses the basic unity of the solutions which were proposed there. (shrink)
